Rehearsal dinner report

(sorry about the size of the pics, I will try to work on those)
I didn't think I was nervous on saturday as I was preparing for the rehearsal dinner, but my stomach was telling me otherwise. After a handful of peppermint mints and a cup of pepto I was feeling a bit better. Maybe it was the 13 mile run I did that morning...who knows.
I started to feel a bit better in the afternoon but then as I awaited the arrival of Karel with his family, I felt very very nervous. Luckily, I had campy there to distract me so we went for a little walk. Around 4pm Karel arrived with his mom, dad and brother. I was just so happy to finally meet them that I forgot all about being nervous. His mom gave me the biggest hug and his dad said I looked just like I did in the pictures. His mom doesn't speak english so instead she just talked to me in czech. Karel's brother speaks English and he was very happy to meet me as well. Karel did a great job of translating and he said he hasn't used that much czech in a very long time.
Karel's family came inside and they were introduced to all my family...my mom, dad, brother, cousin, aunt, uncle, grandpa, grandma, meag (my maid of honor), Barbara and Clyde. You would think they would be overwhelmed but they weren't. Everyone was talking to Karel's parents (who are divorced but get along fantastic) and Karel was once again translating. It was just great having Karel's family there and I could tell that Karel was so happy.
After I changed my clothes a zillion times I was ready to get the dinner started. The food came out great and the wraps were a big hit. We also had a selection of deserts, fruit and plenty of beer and wine.
We had about 30 people at the dinner and it was very informal.
Karel's family brought my parents and myself gifts from czech. My mom and dad received a wonderful book and DVD all about the czech republic and I'm sure they will want to join karel and I when we make our trip over there one day.
I received a beautiful ruby necklace that is made only in czech. It is almost too beautiful to wear. My grandma also gave me a beautiful diamond necklace. Karel gave his groomsmen beer mugs with their names engraved and I gave my parents and Karel's parents pictures, frames and albums.
I just couldn't thank my parents, our guests and Karel's family enough for joining us that evening and I was so excited for the wedding day! Although my tummy was still a bit queezy I didn't stop that from enjoying myself that evening. Plenty of pictures, kisses with Karel and hugs from family. I just loved having so many great people in one place (at my parents house) and I couldn't wait until I was at the beach the next day.
Around 9pm I loaded up meag's car and we headed to the Comfort inn in dunedin. Meag, my friend meri and I stayed together in one room and Karel and his family stayed on the floor below. We stuck with traditions and didn't see each other from sat night at bedtime until the ceremony. I was a bit nervous we would run into each other at the continental breakfast, since we both love our oatmeal but thank goodness for text messaging to warn karel that i would get my breakfast first.
On sat evening my best friend Allie came over to my room to hang out with us girls. I was super happy that my roommate from college in Kentucky came to the wedding. I haven't seen Brandi since 2004 and it was great to have her there with me. She knows I've had my share of not-so-good boyfriends so she was really excited to meet Karel...he's a keeper for sure!

In marni-style, I decorated a sign for my room (BRIDE) and a sign for Karel's room (GROOM) and I also made a Just married sign. I just loving being creative. After we all talked for a while, it was 1230 and I was ready for bed. Although I got in a few hours of sleep I was ready to get the day started at 7am.
The wedding recap will be here shortly...I must go vote now!

I am MARRIED!!!

I thought I'd give a quick update and some pics.
The wedding was BEAUTIFUL, Karel was smokin' hot in his white tux and the reception was so much fun! The food was great, the music was awesome and Karel and I were surrounded by so many of our close friends and family.
The wedding day report will come shortly but for now.....a few pics. I promise we have nicer pictures from the ceremony and reception :)

AFTER the wedding at the bar in downtown Dunedin!!!

(although the picture may show that I am drunk, I have a few pics to show my other half who had a bit too much to drink. For someone who never drinks, I enjoyed only one drink. Karel handled the rest of the drinks for me.)

Day before the wedding!

Karel's family came in last night with no delays or problems with customs. I'm sure it was emotional since that was the first time Karel has seen his family in 8 years! After almost 24 hours of traveling from czech to vienna to paris to atlanta...they finally arrived to Jax at 9pm.
Now, Karel and his family are making their way down to new port richey.
My aunt, uncle, cousin, brother and grandma made it in yesterday and now our house is full of people. I'm a big family person so this is just great for me to have everyone here.
This morning I ran 13 miles and finished the run with by brother as he was heading out for a 45 min run. We ran together for about 10 min and then I soaked my legs in my parents pool (the water is a bit chilly).
The day is actually going pretty slowly. The food is almost done and we have chopped lots of veggies. I am finally lying down and ready to go over my speech and vows.
Just wanted to give everyone a quick update. I probably won't be blogging again until Mon.
Time to go get married!!!!

2 more days!

The hours are flying by....
I started my day in the pouring rain with Campy not wanting to go the bathroom at 5:30am. So instead I went to the gym and Campy pooped and peed inside. Oh well, his first mistake of the weekend.
I had a great run at the Y and I even saw some familiar faces. I ran 8.6 miles and it went by super fast. I did one of my favorite sets:
20 min warm-up
6 x 45 sec @ 9mph
6 min @ 7.8mph
5 x 45 sec @ 9.1mph
5 min @ 7.8 mph
4 x 45 sec @ 9.2mph
4 min @ 7.8mph
3 x 45 sec @ 9.3mph
3 min @ 7.8mph
2 x 45 @ 9.4mph
2 min @ 7.8mph
1 x 45 sec @ 9.5mph
1 min @ 7.8
Super fast set!

After a little lifting I showered up and headed to wal-mart for some wraps for our rehearsal dinner. I decided on wraps for everyone instead of getting it catered so I will be helping my family chop and cook on sat all day long. I can't wait to eat all the yummy foods and deserts (my mom made chocolate peanut clusters. I don't like chocolate so I pick out the peanuts and I'll give the chocolate pieces to Karel :)
I headed home and after breakfast my mom and I packed up the car with the guest gift bags, table settings, signs for the beach, pictures, posters and favors.
I decided I couldn't do all of these errands alone so Campy joined me. Although he slept most of the way for our 4 hour journey around clearwater and dunedin, he enjoyed everyone petting him and telling him how cute he is. Campy was super good and so well-behaved.
The first stop was Bon apetite for the reception stuff. After that I dropped off the gift bags at the Best Western Yacht Club hotel. Then we went to the comfort inn for more gift bags. We had a quick look at the water but it was a little rainy out and super windy. That's ok, better today than sun for my beach wedding.
Then we went to the fruit and vegetable market that I use to walk to at my old place. Oh I missed it!! I bought a bunch of veggies and only spent $6!!!
Then we went to honeymoon island to drop off the signs for the beach people so people don't get lost for our 11am wedding on sun.
Afterwards we were finished with errands and after a quick stop at McD's (yes, you heard me right) to get a parfait to feed my dropping blood sugar levels we had one more stop to make.
I have family at the WTC (world triathlon corporation) in Tarpon Springs. I just love the people there and Judy at Iron Girl has been one of the best mentors ever. I love going to the WTC and saying hi and today it was extra special because I was with campy and I could talk about my wedding. Also it was nice to not even bring up triathlons or even kona. I just popped in every office and said hello. It is always nice to see everyone there and I absolutely care for everyone there. They are wonderful people and since my internship I have a new found appreciation for what goes into the IM corporation and the events. Also, campy was a bit hit and he got lots of love.

Well, I talked with Karel and he is awaiting his parents arrival. Just a few more hours and they will be there! The weather is really bad in ATL and both my aunt's family and Karel's family will be flying through. We just hope that the customs department is having a good day and they will be nice to Karel's family. For anyone who has gone through customs, it can take 20 sec or 2 hours. Hopefully everything will be ok and they will get in around 9pm.
As for the rest of my family, my grandma came in today and my bro comes in tonight (around the same time as my aunt, uncle and cousin).
Well, I'm sure I'll have some pics by tomorrow. I have been so busy to even bring out the camera but that is no excuse for this special occasion.

Tomorrow morning I am feeling a good 2 hour run (at the minimum). I can't wait to clear my head, run through Starkey park and just enjoy a few early morning hours to myself.

Just another day

This morning I woke up at 4:40am so that I could swim with my old swim team at the Palm Harbor Y. There was no question that I would join them for an early swim, 4 days before my wedding, since I was in town. I arrived at the Y and said my hellos before jumping in to the semi-cool outdoor pool. It was pitch dark outside but the pool was lit up just enough to see the bottom of the pool.
The swim set was great and it kept me from thinking about the wedding.
16 x 50's w/ fins warm-up on 40 sec (more like a 800 straight)
5 x 200 kick w/ fins on 3:30 (my fins were giving me blisters and since i hate fins and I have to wear sandals on sunday, I suffered through 4 of them and then got rid of the fins for number 5)
Main set: 16 x 100's on 1:30 w/ fins (I did the first 4 with fins and my feet were killing me. I toughed it up and did them all without fins while the other two guys on my cycle did them with fins).

Then I was ready to run. Instead of running on the treadmill I decided to grab my radio and hit the pinellas trail. Oh how I missed running on that trail! So many memories...IMFL and KONA!

As I was driving home I started thinking about my day. I worked out for 2 hours and then did my wedding stuff. Fun beauty stuff today...I had my hair done for a practice run and it came out great! A wife of one of the gearlinkers works at a hair salon and she did an awesome job on my hair. I can't wait til sun to see the real deal. Then after lunch, I went and got my nails done. I am struggling a little bit on the computer...it has been 8 years since I have had a french manicure. I think it was my senior prom when I had fake nails. They do look nice and they will look good in pics but I would not pay $40 for these to stay on on a daily basis. I think campy likes when I rub his back though.

Aside from all the wedding stuff I was thinking about starting my day with my workout. I didn't think twice about not working out this morning. I often wonder how people can tell me that they don't have time to exercise. 1 hour a day is my recommendation for 6 days of the week. when you think about it, if you sleep 6 hours a night and work an 8 hour day, that leaves 10 hours to workout. Ok, I know there are other errands to be done and commuting takes up time, but to give yourself 1 hour a day to raise the heart rate, get sweaty and burn calories is not that hard.
I think there are a few reasons why people make excuses not to exercise.
Sleep is a big one. I am usually in bed around 9:30 with lights out around 10. Sometimes I watch the beginning of Nancy Grace at 10 but I am really consistent with my sleep. I know a lot of people don't have the luxury of going to bed early but it takes a little time management to get things done during the week (Not all in one day) in order to go to bed 30 min earlier a few nights a week. I think sleep is a major reason why people don't make it to the gym.
Another reason, which occurs a lot in athletes, is that feeling that the workout won't be productive. Regardless if we are tired or full of energy, we always eqate workouts to rewards. Of course quality is better than quantity but we look at HR, zones, times, durations, speeds, power, etc. all to define if we have a successful workout. For the past 4-5 weeks I think I have done something active almost every day of the week. Maybe 2-3 times I have taken the entire day off (aside from crunches) but I find myself looking forward to exercising because I am just burning calories and getting in a good sweat. I don't care about interval times or how much I think I should do. I am just outside or in the gym because I like to challenge my body. Even if I don't have expectations, the challenge to my body is to become a little healthier than the day before.
I think if we could all just enjoy being active it would be a lot easier to make ourselves just exercise. We don't always have to train.
Well, as for me, I am LOVING just exercising and getting myself to the gym, in the pool or out on the road almost everyday of the week. Hopefully everyone out there is finding ways to keep their bodies in motion during the "winter" so that come spring, the body will be ready to train.
Oh-did I mention I will not be training, exercising or doing any type of physical activity on sun morning!!! Instead, I'll be burning off my lunch and cake calories by dancing all afternoon!!!!

*To Karel: I MISS YOU! Can't wait 'til you are here with your family on Sat.

10/21/08

Need a good laugh???

I had a great 4000 yard swim practice today. The main set was 2 x (200 kick, 5 x 100 swim on 1:30, 400 pull). Then 200 kick and 500 swim for time (6:58!).
After the swim I ran on the treadmill for 4 miles and then lifted. Since Karel was out mountain biking at Hannah Park in Jacksonville beach I couldn't wait to get home and see my Campy.
When I got to my door I could smell graham crackers. That's weird, I didn't have graham crackers on me?

When I opened the door I couldn't believe what I saw! The graham cracker bag that was on our kitchen table was now on floor!!!
CAMPY!!!!!
Oh-did I mention that those graham crackers were one of several items that were being used for gift bags at the wedding!!!

I guess campy had a nice carbohydrate breakfast.

And for some reason I don't think he was alone in this plan!!

I find it strange that Smudla, who couldn't even walk by Campy in the hallway without an evil look or hiss in Campy's face, can now be on the same couch with him...hummmmm?????

After I vacuumed the floor and gave him the silent treatment...a puppy like this is too hard to resist.

10/20/08

SO MUCH TO DO!!!!

I work well under pressure....so I thought.
I guess I never had to balance school, nutrition, Campy, Karel and working out with my wedding in 6 days!

Puppy brick workouts

Campy is just too fast for me. I think I need a new runner for campy. Someone who can run sub-6:30 min/miles.
Not only are we going on long walks on a daily basis (more than once a day) but Campy is my new transition dog. Although I'm not "training" right now, I consider bricks w/ Campy a perfect exercise for both of us on the weekends. Unfortunantly, my legs just don't go that fast.
On sat morning I went for a nice 1:35 run. I wasn't really sure how the run would go since my mind was in a million places when I started and with my radio batteries dying at around 30 min. into the run I wasn't sure how the run would end. Luckily, the run was great, the weather was cool and I couldn't wait to get back home to be with Campy. My legs felt great during the run and I didn't stop to walk. Since that last half, I have committed myself to not walking during long runs.
When I got home from my run I put on Campy's harness and grabbed the leash and he was ready to torture me. We started walking down our apartment stairs and once we hit the parking lot he was ready to run.
We ran around our apartment complex and I couldn't believe how fast he can run!!! We are working on continuous running and I can't wait til we can run a mile together. I see a 5K in his future!

As for this morning, Karel and I had a date on our bikes together for a nice 40 mile ride. When I took campy out this morning at 6:30am it was SO cold out!! Ok, to some 50-degrees might be "warm" but we were not expecting the sudden drop in temperature. We pulled out the arm warmers and at 7am we hit the road on our road bikes.
I tried not to draft off of Karel too much so we rode side-by-side. It was nice to finally ride together since this was the first time in about a month that he has been on his road bike. However, as I am pushing hard in my big ring, trying to hold 20 mph in windy conditions, Karel is spinning his legs in the small chain ring. I had a little melt down around mile 25 in the ride when we made a left turn and all the lactic acid flushed into my legs and I was just so mad at the winds. As I am getting frustrated on my bike Karel is there to brighten my spirits and he tells me that the wind is just there to remind me that I finished Kona. Ok, so today was nothing like Kona but the little frustration that I get on my bike just makes me want to work harder to get stronger. Maybe one day I will pull Karel :)
After 35 miles Karel headed home and I rode for 10 more miles. When I got home Campy was ready for another run and I was ready for my brick with him. Another run around the apartment and this time he was ready to set a PR. I felt like Campy was running me and I was just being pulled by his leash.
Well, this was a great weekend bur I can't wait to get through the next 3 days (2 days of school) so that Campy and I can hit the road to see my parents.

Campy and I before our 10 min brick run

I think that bone is too big???

Campy taking his evening nap after a walk.

(we didn't put him like that. He loves sleeping on his back and he loves being under blankets)

10/17/08

9 days away!!!

My stress level is pretty high right now. So much on my mind and lots of lists and to-do's are being made. Karel is pretty laid back right now but he is doing great on listening to me and asking questions.
I can't believe the wedding is just 9 days away. I am leaving on Wed to head to my parents and I just can't wait to be down there to see my family and my grandparents. The rest of the family will fly in on Fri. I am also really looking forward to seeing my brother. We get along so well and we are just the best of friends. Unfortunately, I don't get to see him very much because he lives in Pitt, PA and works at PPG (plate glass company) up there. I am also really excited to see all our Gearlink friends. I think half the wedding is family and the other half is cyclists. Well, if it wasn't for the Gearlinkers we would not have met on May 31, 2006. And lastly, Karel's mom, dad and brother will be arriving on Fri evening from Czech Republic. I asked Karel if he was excited and I think he is a little nervous. It's been 9 years since he has seen his dad and brother and 5 years since he has seen his mom. I think the emotions will run high on friday and I wish I was there to see his reaction when they walk off the plane. I couldn't imagine not being around my parents for even a month so I know our wedding will be a very special time for Karel. I am also excited to meet his parents. Although his mom doesn't speak English, words aren't always needed to show love. I've talked to karel's brother via email several times and I talk to Karel's dad on Instant Messenger a few times a month. He has been learning English and I just love seeing him progress with his English. I guess I should brush up with my czech in the next week as well.
And as a last minute decision I decided that I couldn't leave my Campy and Smudla. They are family and they must be there with me next week. Campy will go down with me on Wed and Karel will bring Smudla on Sat morning. I don't think Campy will be able to be in the wedding but I know he will be given lots of love by all my relatives at the rehearsal dinner.
Speaking of Campy, he is doing just great. He is so well-behaved and he is just so happy to be around us. He walks about 3 miles a day. Karel walks him twice in the morning and that is "boy" time as I am working out. Then in the afternoon, Campy and I walk 1.2 miles to the Trek store to visit Karel and we either walk back home or take Karel's car and drive home. Campy loves it outside and he loves taking walks. Smudla is doing much better and she likes being around us. She still has her watch eyes on Campy but I haven't heard that much hissing from Smudla. I wouldn't go so far to say that they will be best buds but at least we can leave them alone without putting them in seperate rooms :)

Hope everyone had a great week and enjoy the weekend!

Falling off your diet

Around this time of the year I get A LOT of emails from people asking me if I can help them with their diet. The subject usually reads "nutrition help" and the email usually starts off with something about not being able to stick to my diet plan. I love answering emails and I'm usually pretty prompt to get back to people. Luckily, I love what I do and I like address issues individually when people write to me. However, when the same topics come up over and over again, I find that it is more practical to write on my blog because my emailers are probably not the only ones experiencing nutrition problems. So, if you think this blog is in response to your email to me, please know that I am writing in response to the concerns of many athletes out there :)

When I think about falling off of a diet I think one of two things.
1) There was a solid nutrition plan to begin with.
2) The nutrition plan was too restricted and difficult to maintain.

First I'd like to address the 2nd thought. If you are sticking to a nutrition plan that leaves you feeling restricted, obsessively counting calories and macronutrients carbs, protein, fats) and makes you feel depressed when you see others enjoy your "restricted" foods, then you are likely to fall off your diet more than 1 time. It is no fun having to stick with a certain nutrition plan, especially if you are an athlete. The body requires certain nutrients in order to perform well but your hard work and effort after weeks of solid training provides your body with some leniency to eat a little extra of the foods you want. I find that people associate certain foods as good foods and bad foods and, although it is ok to see a food as bad, it should be viewed as bad for only 1 reason-Heart unhealthy. A food isn't bad because if you eat it you are guaranteed to gain weight. The body doesn't work like that. It takes around 3500 calories to gain a pound but if you are carrying extra weight the right fuels must be used in order to lose that weight. Maybe you find that you can't stop eating that food when you do try to just eat a little but foods such as cereal, ice cream, chocolate, bagel, cheese, chips, etc. aren't going to put on lbs if you eat them every now and then and in a small quantity. However, foods which are high in trans fat, processed with hydrogenated oil and/or fried/greasy are not healthy for the heart. No matter if you are training for a marathon, IM or you enjoy exercising on a daily basis, no amount of working out can validate putting food in your body which can increase your chance of coronary heart disease and high cholesterol or increase your chance of having poor cardiovascular health. Furthermore, heart unhealthy food should not appeal to you because it is not something that an athlete wants to put in his/her body on a daily basis. We all know that a donut every now and then won't clog your arteries but if the daily diet isn't balanced, the heart will eventually feel the affects when your every now and then food becomes a normal food in your diet.
It is important that you focus on ways to incorporate healthy foods in the diet so that you enjoy eating them. This doesn't mean you have to eat broccoli for dinner every night but you need learn to enjoy healthy food. Try to stick to basic foods which aren't bagged, canned or frozen. Seek foods on the perimeter of the grocery store and/or check out a fresh food market. If you are living on a diet which has no flexibility to enjoy a little of everything, you will feel like a failure if you eat something that is not on your restricted diet plan.
However, if your diet is balanced with whole grains, good sources of protein, good fats and lots of veggies and fruits, you can still feel successful with your weight loss goals even if you have a daily 100-calorie treat of something. It is important that you are conscious of your eating and that you focus on having healthy food around you at all times. Because we all know we will eat it if it is available (especially after training) then provide yourself (and your family) with foods that will never make you feel guilty. Ever feel bad about eating grapes in the evening after dinner as oppose to going to bed with a cup or two of ice cream in your belly?

Now that I discussed how you should never be on a nutrition plan that you can't stick to on a daily basis, I want to talk about my first thought.
Many people come to me asking for help with a new nutrition plan. Therefore, that person doesn't know where to start. They need to clean up the diet, they want to incorporate more exercise in their lifestyle and they want to have more energy. I love these people because I have a blank slate to fill a head with knowledge. It doesn't take long for people to realize that it isn't that hard to have a healthy diet and I love hearing about the success stories. More so, with the weight loss seakers, the initial focus on weight loss turns into a found appreciation for a cleaner diet and a healthier body.
However, for a lot of people out there, the off-season has approached us and it is difficult to keep off the pounds as we decrease our training volume. I just finished up an article for Iron Girl about off-season exercise so I won't go into too much detail but I want to express the need to keep yourself active with fun activities to burn calories. If anything, this is the time where it doesn't matter if you feel tired after a workout because you have no upcoming race to get ready for. It is ok to not exercise on a sat but it is also ok to run 60 minutes, 4 days in a row and only get on your bike for 3 hours once a week. You can bonk, just get through workouts, walk on the treadmill....whatever you want! However, I do suggest keeping the workouts fun and although your goal is burn calories with a lower calorie diet, don't make every workout intense. Get the heart rate up, feel the burn and don't let your life revolve around training.....just exercise for fun! There is nothing wrong with riding your bike for 4 hours on a sunday but just don't make yourself feel like you have to do it. Exercising in the off-season (especially for the first 2-3 months) should incoporate new activities in addition to those that you already enjoy as a triathlete. Do workouts that you have never done before, train with new people and get yourself in new environmental conditions.
So, for those just exercising for the next few months it is important that your diet reflects your training routine. If you are only working out for 10 hours a week and want to lose 10-15 lbs, you must cut out calories in order to burn more calories than you take in. Remember, you have nothing to worry about when cutting out calories. If you are exercising at a moderate intensity (I recommend long fat-burning workouts) you aren't going to bonk or hit a wall. Please don't try to get by on a 1000 calorie diet. You can easily lose weight at 1700-1800 calories for women and 2200-2400 calories for men. It is most important that you focus on smaller meals and snacks in order to reach your calorie recommendations.
If you feel like you fell-off your diet and you already had a solid nutrition plan you are probably just feeling the affects of the off-season. Take some time to remember that a piece of pizza is fine. 2 pieces of pizza is extra calories. If you "use to" eat healthy when you are training you are probably finding that you are having trouble stopping at 1 piece, 1 serving or 1 scoop of certain foods. I'm sure those foods are yummy but you still need to remember how many calories your body needs on a daily basis in order to lose or maintain weight. Remind yourself that you don't need to eat those extra calories. I know sometimes it takes willpower to restrict yourself from having extras of foods (even if it is healthy) but it is important that you focus more on your caloric intake of a well-balanced diet rather than focusing on the foods you can or can't eat in your diet.
I think the majority of people out there who feel like they can't get their nutrition down in the off-season are simply eating more than they need. Whereas you could eat a bowl of pasta once a week during the season and not gain weight, it is important to focus on reducing your calories and eating a wide variety of fruits and vegetables so that you can maintain or lose weight, while exercising daily, without feeling like your nutrition plan is difficult to maintain. I promise, if you swap out a few snacks (especially after dinner and workouts) for more healthier options and cut back on a few calories at each meal you will find yourself seeing results in the mirror in no time!

I recommend talking to people in your house (or at your work if you live alone) and letting people know about your nutrition plan. Do not complain to them that you are fat or that you need to lose weight because it is your responsibility to serve yourself portioned controlled food, to provide yourself with healthy foods and to stop eating when you know you have reach your caloric recommendations. However, telling people (especially if you are in a relationship) that you really want to start eating healthier and that you want to reduce your intake of x-food (or not bring it in the house) will hold you accountable. There is something about being honest about your weight loss plan or daily nutrition plan and letting others know what you are doing instead of just keeping it to yourself as you attempt to eat a salad as others are talking about going out for pizza. If you know you are being true to your own nutrition plan (which needs to be reasonable so that you can lose weight and be able to socialize and be in group settings without feeling self-concious about your food choices or restricted) you won't feel bad about the lifestyle choices you are making. If you are eating around people who insist on eating unhealthy food and are unsuccessful in weight loss, don't let others sabotoge your nutrition plan. Eating healthy is contagious but you must be the first to start. It will take time to make changes but never feel like you have failed. If you fall-off your nutrition plan at 1 meal do not worry. There are 364 more days to feel great about your food choices and 1 meal, 2 meals or 5 meals won't ruin a solid nutrition plan if you are willing to stick to your plan for the rest of your life.

*Never start a nutrition plan tomorrow, next Mon or in a few weeks. A good nutrition plant isn't an event and it doesn't have a timeline. If you have to start tomorrow then you are telling yourself you aren't ready to give up something that has contributed to where you are with your weight. Starting now will get you where you want to be but you must recognize what you can do to make healthy changes which will last a lifetime.

Mountain bike race...CAMPY'S first trip!

We set out early on sun morning. Karel and I woke up at 5:30am and after having my morning cup of coffee, I prepared our cooler of fruit, yogurt, water bottles and PB&J sandwiches. However, before we set out for our 3 hour trip, I wanted to get in a quick 30 min run. I just love early morning running outdoors! After my run from 6:30-7 I packed up our stuff in my car and off we went. Karel, me and CAMPY!
We met Karel's friend Alex at the Trek store and he was with his gf Lenore. It was nice to travel with some other people and instead of me just blabbering to Karel for the car ride to Tallahassee, I had two other people to talk to me. It seemed like a long car ride to the race venue but by 10:30 we were ready to get out of the car. Campy was so good in the car and he spent most of the time finding the best lap to sit on as he cuddled himself to sleep. He's such a good doggy!
While Alex and Karel warmed up, Lenore and I walked Campy all around the race venue. The race was at Tom Brown Park and there was so much action going on. Food vendors, a playground, lots of ground to walk, a BMX course, the mountain bike race, frisbee....oh, and LOTS of dogs! Campy made sure that his 11.5 lb body made the biggest bark and with his first bike trip, he made quiet an impression on EVERYONE. I can't tell you how many people wanted to pet and hold Campy. I think Campy is one special dog but the fact that so many people thought he was sooooo cute, I was just proud to be his mommy.
As for the mountain bike race (the other reason why campy and I went to the race), Karel did awesome! The course was really hard. Not sure if it was just extremely technical but he said it was very difficult due to the layout of the course. I always enjoy seeing Karel in his zone and giving his all for his races but I thought it was neat to see Karel on a BMX course. Part of the mountain bike course was on a BMX course so with the 3 loops of his race, he had to complete the ups and downs of the BMX course and attempt his first time at BMX-ing.
Campy and I watched the whole race and we did a lot of walking. After we saw Karel finish up his loop we had about 25 min to wait until we saw him again. Campy was so tired after the first loop but he was almost out by loop 2. Good thing about Campy is that he gets instant energy as soon as he gets outside so after relaxing in the front seat of the car for a few minutes he was ready to walk around. Near the 3rd loop Campy was pretty tired and so was his owner. It was a long morning for a 1 1/2 hour race but we were super excited to see Karel finish 3rd! He was nearing the finish in 2nd place but some guy passed him near the end without Karel even knowing that other guy was right behind him.
And of course, Campy and I were there to meet Karel at the finish and no matter what place he got, we both were there to give him a big kiss. Of course, Campy's kisses are so much more cute than mine.
I thought pics would do this blog more justice and of course, who can resist a puppy at his first bike race. Karel and I keep telling each other how thankful we are to have Campy in our life. Already, he is a great addition to our family and he brings such big smiles to our faces. The only bad part is that it is SO hard to say good-bye to those beautiful big brown eyes.
